The trip

Costumed pets on the beach. The driving is ours.

Kids and Kritters is Pensacola Beach's Mardi Gras parade for people and their pets. It is a walking parade: families in costume, costumed pets on the leash, and mini floats built on wagons and strollers. It opens with the royal court of the Krewe of Kids, and before it starts there is karaoke for kids and a dance show on the parade grounds in the Casino Beach parking lot, beside the beach ball water tower. This season's theme is Seaside Circus.

Pensacola Beach is three hours from Tallahassee, which is a long day at the wheel with a car full of costumes. So we drive it. The van leaves Tallahassee in the morning, drops you at the beach, and brings you home the same day. Nine seats, one driver, and the only thing to pack is a bag for the beads.

No ticket needed

Buy the ride here. The parade is free.

There is no charge to watch Kids and Kritters, and parking at the beach is free. What we sell is the ride: from Tallahassee to Pensacola Beach, and home again the same day.

Anyone can march in it, too. You register on the parade grounds on the day. People march free and there is a small fee for each pet. Everyone in the parade has to be in costume and bring their own throws, and the organisers ask for no candy and no paper coupons. If you plan to march with a pet or a mini float, ask us before you book.

How it goes

Getting on. Be at your pickup a few minutes early. The van leaves on time and does not come back for a second run.

At the beach. The parade grounds are in the Casino Beach parking lot, next to the visitor information center, just south of the traffic light on the island. They open well before the parade, so you can find a good spot inside the barricades. Bring a bag for the beads and trinkets.

Coming home. The van is back where it dropped you at the time on your booking. Pensacola Beach is on Central time, an hour behind Tallahassee, so check the time on your booking against the clock on your phone, and put it in your phone before the parade starts.
