The trip

The second weekend, and a driver for it

Jazz Fest started in 1970, and today it fills the Fair Grounds Race Course over two weekends. This trip is the second. Wondering which one to pick? The festival says you cannot go wrong with either, because it takes care to spread the music evenly across both.

Six hours each way is a lot of driving to wrap around a day in the sun, and the Fair Grounds has no general parking. So leave the car at home. The van takes you to the festival, you sleep in New Orleans on your own booking, and the van brings you back to Tallahassee the next day.

One seat costs $130.00. You pay now, and if the van does not fill, you get every cent back. It leaves in 228 days.

The food

Come hungry

The food areas serve more than two hundred dishes: traditional Creole and Cajun cooking, New Orleans standards, and newer Creole ideas. Most of it is made by hand from local ingredients, by vendors who have been cooking at the festival for years. Crawfish and alligator are on the menu, and so are vegetarian and vegan dishes.

Your seat on the van will not get you into Jazz Fest. We sell the ride only: pickup in Tallahassee, drop at the Fair Grounds, and the trip home the day after. The festival ticket is yours to buy from the festival.

Tickets go on sale when the festival announces its lineup, and it sells VIP packages too. Make sure your ticket covers the day this van runs before you book a seat.

How it goes

Getting on. Get to your pickup a few minutes early. The van leaves on time for the long drive west, and there is no second run.

At the Fair Grounds. Most of the infield is open to the sun. The festival suggests light clothes, a wide hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and shoes you can walk in all day. Several stages sit under tents, and the Grandstand has shade and air conditioning.

The night. Your room is yours to find and book. The festival advises booking as early as you can, since hotels fill up for Jazz Fest. We only drive.

Coming home. The van picks you up the next day at the time on your booking. Save that time in your phone now, so the next day is easy.
