The trip

Shortcake, a midway and a day in Plant City

The Florida Strawberry Festival started in 1930, when Plant City's new Lions Club wanted a way to celebrate the strawberry harvest. Today it is a proper fair: livestock shows, arts and crafts, rides on the midway, free entertainment tents, headline concerts in the stadium, and strawberry shortcake from booths around the grounds. Local farms sell fresh berries there too.

Plant City is four hours from Tallahassee, and the parking around the grounds is a ring of cash-only lots. Skip all of that. The van drops you at the festival and brings you home at the end of the day. Nine seats, one driver, and the only thing you carry back is a flat of strawberries.

A seat on the van is not a festival ticket. What we sell is the ride: we pick you up in Tallahassee, drop you at the festival grounds, and bring you home at the end of the day. Getting through the gate is between you and the festival.

Gate admission is sold online ahead of time and at the gate. Headline concerts are a separate ticket, and the festival is clear that a concert ticket does not include gate admission. If you have one, check the show time against the time on your booking.

How it goes

Getting on. Be at your pickup a few minutes early. The van leaves on time and does not come back for a second run.

At the festival. You are dropped at the grounds. Gate admission is your own to buy; we only drive. Bags may be searched at the gate, and the festival does not allow bottles, cans, coolers or picnic baskets, or pets other than service animals. Cards work at the gates, but the festival suggests carrying a little cash as well.

Coming home. The van is back where it dropped you at the time on your booking. Put that time in your phone when you step off, before the midway gets hold of you.
